  • Angry Birds Launches Off iPhone, Goes to PS3 and Portables

In a move that will surely make HawtWired's own Patrick Wright happy, Angry Birds is jumping off Apple's App Store waters and launching on the DS, PSP, and PS3 some time in the near future.

Other than the announcement of it coming, there are no other details involving the title. It's likely if they go full retail with it the developer would add new levels, mechanics and multiplayer aspects to the original game. Don't set your expectations too high, though...the game may just be a quick port to the respective systems' downloadable shops.

Apparent from our recent chats on the GamerDeals Podcast, I'm sure Patrick would buy it three times over regardless of any updates or changes.
  • Marvel Ultimate Alliance DLC Gets Second Edition

So, if you were like me, you snatched up Activision's Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 late winter after all the retailers started cleaning out their leftover holiday stocks, picking up the game at a very reasonable 20 bucks.  Then, if alos like me, you're a Marvel nut you hit your console's respective online store to pick up bonus characters like Magneto and Psylocke and the like, only realize that you missed the boat--the DLC characters were long gone.

The Character Packs, adding great Marvel characters Magneto, Psylocke, Cable, Carnage, and Black Panther to the mix, were set to a very limited time availability, and in the holiday crunch most news outlets missed covering the notice that window was only about a month-and-a-half.  We missed it here, at HAWTwired, as well, but since we didn't launch the site until after the DLC was removed, I'm going to ask for a little amnesty on this one.

Scanning One of Sword's blog over the holiday, I noticed that fan outcry has paid off, and Activision has reinstated the Character Packs, as well as adding a download for Juggernaut, a character that was originally only available though pre-order.  O-of-S reports that the Xbox Live packs are live, and though not solid date for the PSN packs has been stated, this Tuesday (July 6) seems the most likely culprit.

If you're looking to get a little extra mileage out of your MUA2, snatch the packs up while you can, as the DLC is on a timer again, only this time with the more realistic cut-off of December 31, 2010.  If nothing else, it will give you a good excuse to go through the game again and play the other faction (I'm looking at you, Anti-Reg heads...)

  • E3 '10 Hawt Graded: Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light (XBLA, PSN)

What's Hawt: Funny that the first title to remove "Tomb Raider" from Ms. Croft's artifact-hunting adventures is the one that most resembles its namesake. From the demo I tried out, I was dead center in a jungle full of pyramid-looking structures and...well, tombs. Crystal Dynamics is taking their baby into a wholly new territory: Lara Croft in isometric view with an emphasis on co-op. I didn't get to try co-op, but single-player looks to play just fine with Geometry Wars-esque shooting mechanics and interesting puzzles keeping the action fresh.

What's Not So Hawt: The new viewpoint made me think Guardian of Light would focus on more platforming or adventuring elements but Crystal Dynamics seemed to keep draining the "shooter" aspect well. They did it the best way possible, at least. Straight up twin-stick shooter mechanics that let you take on full screen-sized baddies with ease.

    Overall Demo Hawtness:

    8/10
-- Lara Croft as Lara Croft. AKA Tomb Raider Downloadable.
  • Atlus Says 'Let There be Trine 2'

If you guys played the original Trine, you know it wasn't that good. Wait...that wasn't the general consensus? For me, the game offered really great trophy-whoring opportunities -- as most every trophy was worth at least a silver -- but the actual gameplay didn't impress.

Atlus says they'll be bringing the high-production values series back for another try with Trine 2. Not to be completely disparaging, I thought the visuals were incredible for the DLC title but if they manage to pull of gameplay mechanics that are less glitchy and easier to manage, I can see myself going for another platinum trophy in that world again.

You guys looking forward to Trine sequel?
